South County Sports Club (SCSC) is offering a supervised, structured, progressive winter conditioning program to high school athletes who plan to run spring track next year to prepare them for a competitive spring track season. Experienced older middle schoolers will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
SCSC does not offer Indoor Track, which often means that the Broncos Track & Field athletes often begin the spring season out of condition, leading to sub-par performances or injuries during the season. On the flip side, not having a competitive season during the winter is a great opportunity to train properly, work on strength and biomechanical deficiencies, and not get burned out by over-racing.
Our focus will be on injury prevention, form development, stamina development and speed maintenance, with the goal of having fit, strong, healthy kids ready to begin their spring season.
This program will cater to the longer sprints through the distance events (400m-3200m). We may encourage the athletes to compete in a couple of indoor meets during the winter, but that is all.
